We Are All Musicians Workshop
Using New and Old Technologies to Facilitate Inclusive Music Making
Thursday, June 19, 2014
12:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
THE BOX @ H’art Centre
Juno award winning composer-percussionist Jesse Stewart will collaborate with artists from from Kingston’s H’art Centre, a not-for-profit organization that provides opportunities for people with disabilities to make and experience art, during an inclusive music making workshop to be held on Thursday, June 19th.
This world premiere collaboration will combine the sound of percussion with a variety of cutting-edge interactive music technologies including the “reactable,” an electronic musical instrument with a tangible user interface on an illuminated table top. By placing or manipulating objects on the table’s surface, participants can explore a wide spectrum of sound.
Stewart will be leading a hands-on workshop with artists from H’art Centre in the morning. Then, in the afternoon, he will share the inclusive music making process, his perspective of the experience, the technology, and a brief demonstration with the community. Teachers, teaching artists, social service leaders, and the Kingston music community are invited to attend in the afternoon.
This free workshop is generously supported by the City of Kingston’s Community Investment Fund and Community Foundation of Kingston & Area.
Space is limited. To register your interest in participating, please contact us today.
