Eligibility Criteria

First-Year Applicants (defined as students who have attempted fewer than 24.0 units; failures are considered attempted units):

  1. Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 1.60;
  2. Must satisfy appropriate departmental criteria that may exceed these minimums;
  3. Those interested in a Bachelor of Science program must also have taken the secondary school (or equivalent) prerequisite courses.

Upper-Year Applicants (defined as students who have attempted 24.0 or more units; failures are considered attempted units):

Upper-year applicants must state their intended degree program and Plan.  Due to space limitations, not all Plans are open to students transferring into the Faculty of Arts and Science.  After being admitted to an open Plan, upper-year transfer students will not be able to transfer into a Plan that was closed when they were admitted to Queen’s, or that closes subsequently.  This is the case even for those who take a qualifying course once at Queen’s and receive a competitive average.

  1. Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 1.90;
  2. Must satisfy appropriate departmental criteria that may exceed these minimums; enrollment limitations or lack of prerequisites may result in denial of an application to transfer;
  3. Those interested in a Bachelor of Science program must also have taken the secondary school (or equivalent) prerequisite courses
  4. Should note that having a cumulative GPA of less than 1.90 will make them ineligible for graduation with an Honours degree;
  5. Should student have attempted 132.0 units or more and have a cumulative GPA of less than 1.90 at the point of admission, or subsequently complete 132.0 units and have a GPA of less than 1.90, then student will be deemed ineligible to proceed to an Honours degree and will be restricted to a General degree only.  This decision is not appealable. More information is available on Academic Regulation 13.8.1.

Students with a cumulative GPA of less than 1.60 should speak with an Academic Advisor in the Faculty of Arts and Science to inquire about available options.

Transfer Credits

Undergraduate Admission no longer provides a "Statement of Transfer Credit" to students admitted to an Arts and Science program. Plan information will be available in Academic Advisement on SOLUS.  For assistance, please contact an Academic Advisor in the Faculty of Arts and Science at 613.533.2470.

Note: Not all courses offered in other Faculties/Schools have course equivalents in the Faculty of Arts and Science.

Cumulative GPA Calculation

Your academic record will continue to be relevant in your new plan.  In particular, the cumulative GPA will be calculated on all courses attempted during the student's undergraduate career at Queen's, and will be utilised when assessing academic progression and prerequisites, and any other purpose specified under the Academic Regulations. Courses that were not passed in your previous Program will count as failures in the Faculty of Arts and Science.

Registration Information

After accepting an offer of admission to the Faculty of Arts and Science, students should visit the Faculty of Arts & Science website for registration related information.

Once admitted on SOLUS students should drop any of the previous program courses that they no longer wish to take.
