Cross-FacultyTransfer to the Faculty of Arts and Science

Information for Queen's Students wanting to transfer into the Faculty of Arts and Science.  Based on the number of their transferable credits, they will be entering either first-year or upper-year admission.

Those who have at least 24.0 units of transferable credits are upper-year admission, and those with fewer than 24.0 units are first-year admission.

1 February - APPLICATION DEADLINE for first-year students  (those with fewer than 24.0 units)

1 June - APPLICATION DEADLINE for upper-year students (those with at least 24.0 units)

Application

Queen's students who wish to transfer to a degree program offered in the Faculty of Arts and Science must submit an application through the Ontario Universities' Application Centre  (OUAC) using a 105D Application. 

Current Arts and Science students who wish to remain the Faculty of Arts and Science, but change their Program or Plan, should contact their faculty office for information on how to request those changes.  Such students should not apply through OUAC.

 

Applicants should refer to the Faculty of Arts and Science   Academic Regulation 13.8.1 - Ineligible to Proceed to an Honours Degree for criteria on Honours degree eligibility and the minimum cumulative GPA requirement.

Should an applicant have completed 132.0 or more units at the point of admission and have a GPA of less than 1.90 OR subsequently complete 132.0 and have a GPA of less than 1.90, they shall be deemed ineligible to proceed to an honours degree and will be restricted to general degree only.
     

       
     
    ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
     
     
    First-Year Applicants (defined as students who have fewer than 24.0 transferable* credit units):

    1. must have a minimum Cumulative GPA of 1.60;
    2. must satisfy appropriate departmental criteria that may exceed these minimums;
    3. to a Bachelor of Science or Computing programs must also have taken the secondary school (or equivalent) prerequisite courses.

          * Transferable credit units are those which have equivalent courses in the Faculty of Arts and Science.


    Upper-Year Applicants (defined as students who have 24.0 or more transferable* credit units):

     

    Upper-year applicants must state their intended degree program and Plan.  Due to space limitations, not all Plans are open to students transferring into the Faculty of Arts and Science.  After being admitted to an open Plan, upper-year transfer students will not be able to transfer into a Plan that was closed when they were admitted to Queen’s, or that closes subsequently.  This is the case even for those who take a qualifying course once at Queen’s and receive a competitive average.

    1. must have a Cumulative GPA of 1.60;

    4. should note that having a Cumulative GPA of less than 1.90 will make them ineligible for graduation with an Honours degree.  Enrolment limitations or lack of prerequisites may result in denial of an application to transfer.
    5. should note that a student having attempted 132.0, or more, units at the time of assessment and has a Cumulative GPA of less than 1.90 will be deemed ineligible to proceed to an Honours Degree. The academic standing "Ineligible to Proceed to an Honours Degree" shall be placed on the student's transcript. More information is available on Academic Regulation 13.8.1.

          *Transferable credit units are those which have equivalent courses in the Faculty of Arts and Science.

    Students with a Cumulative GPA of less than 1.60

    Applicants with a Cumulative GPA of less than 1.60 are not eligible to be considered for admission to the Faculty of Arts and Science for a minimum of one year, after which time they must apply and will be considered for part-time admission on probation as per Admission Regulation 11. 

    Students with a Cumulative GPA of less than 0.70

    Students with a Cumulative GPA of less than 0.70 are not eligible to be considered for admission to the Faculty of Arts and Science for a minimum of three years, after which time they may apply and will be considered for part-time admission on probation as per Admission Regulation 11.

     
    Transfer Credits
     
    Undergraduate Admission no longer provides a "Statement of Transfer Credit" to students admitted to an Arts and Science program. Plan information will be available in Academic Advisement on SOLUS.  For assistance, please contact an Academic Adviser in the Faculty of Arts and Science at 613.533.2470. 
    Note that not all courses offered in other Faculties/Schools have course equivalents in the Faculty of Arts and Science. 

    Cumulative GPA Calculation

    Your academic record will continue to be relevant in your new plan.  Courses that were not passed in your previous plan will count as failures in the Faculty of Arts and Science.
    Please note that all credits will transfer to Arts and Science, Kinesiology, Physical and Health Education and Music. For more information please refer to Academic Regulation 10 and Academic Regulation 13.
     
    Registration Information
     
    After accepting an offer of admission to the Faculty of Arts and Science, students should visit the Faculty of Arts & Science website for registration related information.
     
    On SOLUS students should:
    • drop any of the previous program courses that they no longer wish to take and,
    • add Arts and Science courses, subject to space availability, that they wish to complete in their new degree program
