Portfolio Information - Fine Art (QT)
The Bachelor of Fine Art at Queen's is a direct entry program. Applicants to the Bachelor of Fine Art program are required to submit a Digital Portfolio for admission consideration. The recommended deadline for receipt of Digital Portfolios is February 15 to be considered for early offers of admission to Queen's. Final day to submit a portfolio is March 1.
Placement to the Bachelor of Fine Art program is based on a review of both the Digital Portfolio and the Personal Statement of Experience by Bachelor of Fine Art program faculty members.
Please note that applicants must also satisfy both the General Admission requirements and the Additional Program requirements to be considered for admission.
PORTFOLIO INFORMATION
The digital portfolio should include 20 to 30 images of artworks in a range of media including painting, drawing, 3D media, printmedia, and time-based media. Works may include a variety of techniques and processes that demonstrate creativity and original thinking.

Drawing and Painting Media: This category can include projects and/or works in painting and drawing in the following media: oil, wax and water-based painting, or dry media; collage, photo-based and/or digital works; mixed media and 2D design works. The images can reference observational or imagined content in any sylistic domain, for example figurative, representational/realist, abstract or expressive.

Printmedia: images that are made from various printmaking techniques such as relief, dry-point, etching, woodcut and screen-print, are encouraged. Digital images will also be considered in the context of printmedia.

3D Media: 3-dimensional work may be of any material and combination, such as textiles, cardboard, wood, stone, etc. The form may be from observation, figurative, or abstract.

Time-based Media: This may include art video, sound work, computer edited images, and documentation of performance art.
DIGITAL PORTFOLIO REQUIREMENTS & APPLICANT CHECK-LIST
Your digital portfolio submission package must include the following:
Twenty (20) - Thirty (30) images submitted on CD or DVD ONLY must be:

in JPEG format

a maximum of 1 MB file size, maximum resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels, and RGB or greyscale colour mode only (no CMYK)

File names in the following format: 01initialstitle.jpg (image number, applicant's initials, title of the work). Do not put any special characters, symbols, periods (such as / " & -) or spaces in any file name. The image numbers must correspond to the ones in the Image Identification List.

Images may include detail views of 3-Dimensional works.

Video must be in Quick Time or AVI format.
DO NOT send original work. Portfolio submissions will NOT be returned to the applicant.
DO NOT submit image files by email.
Image Identification List must:

include the JPEG file number, title, medium, dimensions (height x width x depth in centimetres), and date for each artwork

be a paper copy only
DO NOT submit Image Identification List by email.
Personal Statement of Experience (PSE):

must be submitted electronically via the applicant self-service website (Recommended deadline is February 15 to be considered for early offers of admission (final day to submit the PSE is March 1).

must include a description of your art background (The BFA recognizes that a portfolio is not a precise measure of potential, and that applicants have varying art and instruction experience.)
