International Baccalaureate Course Equivalencies 

Students are eligible to receive a maximum of eighteen (18) transfer credit units for Higher Level courses completed with a final grade of 5 or greater.

A transfer credit for IB Biology can be used to access the Biology degree Plans.  To access the Major degree Plan, students must achieve a final mark of 6 or higher in IB Biology and must have the required Cumulative GPA*.

 

The Biology Department recommends that students who wish to study Biology take BIOL 102/3.0 and BIOL 103/3.0 at Queen's.  Students who take BIOL 102/3.0 and BIOL 103/3.0 cannot receive a transfer credit for IB Biology.  [Note: students who take BIOL 102/3.0 and BIOL 103/3.0 tend to do better in Biology Plans in their upper years of study.]

Chemistry

A transfer credit for IB Chemistry can be used to access the Chemistry degree Plans so long as the required Cumulative GPA is also achieved*.

Mathematics  MATH 121  6.0

Students who wish to access a degree Plan in Mathematics must take MATH 120/6.0.  Students who take MATH 120/6.0 cannot receive a transfer credit for IB Mathematics (it is an exclusion).

 

Commerce students can transfer MATH 121/6.0 as an elective course but it cannot replace the required COMM 161/3.0 course.

 

Exclusions: No more than 6.0 units from MATH 120/6.0; MATH 121/6.0; MATH 122/6.0; MATH 123/3.0; MATH 124/3.0; MATH 126/6.0**.

Philosophy  PHIL 115  6.0 A transfer credit for IB Philosophy can be used to access Philosophy degree Plans so long as the required Cumulative GPA is also achieved*.
Physics  PHYS 117 3.0

Students who wish to pursue a degree Plan in Physics must take PHYS 104/6.0 or PHYS 106/6.0.  Students who take PHYS 104/6.0 or PHYS 106/6.0 cannot receive a transfer credit for IB Physics (it is an exclusion).

 

Exclusions: No more than 6.0 units from PHYS 104/6.0; PHYS 106/6.0; PHYS 117/6.0**.

Psychology  PSYC 100

A transfer credit for IB Psychology can be used to access specific Psychology degree Plans.  To access the Major degree Plan in Psychology, students must achieve a final mark of 7 in IB Psychology and must have the required Cumulative GPA*.  To access the Medial degree Plan in Psychology, students must achieve a final mark of 6 in IB Psychology and must have the required Cumulative GPA*.

**  Exclusion is defined as a list of two or more courses that are considered similar enough that credit will only be given for a defined subset of courses from that list.  Usually, holding credit for an excluded course(s) will prevent registration in the remaining courses on the list.
