Questions To Ask
Here are some good questions to ask current students and university representatives while you’re “shopping” for a university.
Possible questions to ask students when visiting a university:
- Are professors approachable?
- How did you find large classrooms? Did you have any of them?
- What should I ask university reps when they come to my school?
- What is the transition like? Is it hard? Did you ever use tutoring services, study groups, or the library?
- Did you change your mind after you'd already applied?
- What types of extra-curricular activities did you do? Is it easy to get involved?
- What type of work did you do in your courses? Exams? A lot of papers?
Possible questions to ask university representatives when they come to your school:
- Can I apply to more than one program at your school?
- Can you tell me about financial aid at your university? Is it only based on my grades? Do I need to apply or do you have automatic scholarships or bursaries?
- What are the key deadline dates when I am applying?
- When do I choose my courses? What if I change my mind?
- How do you get involved on campus?
- How much is tuition per year? (Note that some universities charge for the year and others charge for each semester) What will my total costs be? (with books, fees, etc.)
