February 2013 Monthly Results

The following are highlights based on the tables below and major initiatives in the month of February:

Initiative Campaign (2006-2016)

• Campaign donations now total $336.6M (67%) against the $500M goal.
• Gift Planning expectancies (the estimated value of future bequest, insurance, registered account, and trust proceeds confirmed by donors) now total $84.4M (84%) against a separate $100M campaign goal.

Fiscal Year (May 2012- April 2013)

• Donations this Fiscal Year total $61.1M – an increase of $4.8M from the January total of $56.3M.
• The fiscal goal of $60M has been surpassed with 2 months remaining in the Fiscal Year.
• 3 gifts of $100K+ accounted for $3.8M of the $4.8M in donations received in February.
• 68 gifts of $100K+ account for $49.4M of the $61.1M donated this Fiscal Year – these figures support our continued emphasis on principal ($5M+) and major gifts ($100K+).
• The Faculty of Law received a $510,510 gift to create an endowed fund to support clinical programs.  This is the largest gift ever received by the Faculty.

• Fiscal Year 2012-13 (to Feb 28): Alumni Donors – 8,618                                                          Total Donors –   11,989
• Fiscal Year 2011-12 (to Feb 28): Alumni Donors – 8,271                                                          Total Donors –   10,981
• Increase of 4.2% in Alumni Donors, 9.2% in Total Donors from 2011-12 to 2012-13

Annual Giving

Queen’s Parents Programming

• Undertook a review of parents programs at a number of Canadian and U.S. universities.  The most effective programs involve a partnership between Student Affairs and Advancement. As a first step, we are working with Student Affairs to review all current communications with parents.   
• Reinstated mass solicitation by mail and phone to parents of current students.  This program was suspended several years ago when privacy information legislation was introduced. We have now found a way to ensure compliance with this legislation.
• Held an event for Queen’s parents in Toronto on March 6, 2013, featuring Principal Woolf and Vice-Provost and Dean of Student Affairs Ann Tierney.  Ann’s topic “Supporting Student Success” was extremely well received by the one-hundred Queen’s parents in attendance at the Toronto Club.  
• Continue to engage parents in major gift fundraising.  In this Fiscal Year, two gifts totaling $7M were received from parents of Queen’s students in (or having graduated from) the Faculty of Engineering & Applied Science.
