Tom Hewitt appointed as Chief Development Officer in Advancement

Dear Colleagues,

Tom HewittI am pleased to announce the appointment of Tom Hewitt as Chief Development Officer in Advancement for Queen's. Tom will lead the Department of Development and guide all fundraising activities at Queen's.

Tom comes to the University with a significant record of accomplishment in executive fundraising leadership. He served the University of Ottawa Heart Institute Foundation with deep commitment and integrity since joining in January 2001. Under his stewardship, the Foundation exceeded all expectations and delivered significant sums to further the important clinical and research efforts at the Heart Institute. At the the same time, the Foundation's endowment grew to be one of the largest dedicated to cardiovascular research in North America. His experience also includes developing strategic planning frameworks and business plans that link to vision and mission while promoting a culture of innovation and teamwork. Tom has also held senior fundraising positions at the Ottawa Civic Hospital Foundation and Saint-Vincent Hospital Foundation.

Tom is well acquainted with Queen's, having served as a member of University Council and earning a Queen's BA in Political Studies (BA Hons '82). He was honoured as the "top fundraising executive" for the year 2000 by the Association of Fundraising Executives, Ottawa Chapter, and awarded the Margye S. Baumgardner Scholarship from the Association for Fundraising Professionals Executive Leadership Institute in 2003.

He starts his position at Queen's on May 1, 2011. Please join me in welcoming Tom to Queen's and to the Advancement team.
