Setting up your alumni email service

Please note: In order to follow these instructions through the setup process, you will need to use multiple browser windows, or you may want to print off these instructions for your reference.

  1. Go to the NetID Profile Manager. 
  2. Log in with your NetID and password.
  3. Click the “Email Service” link.
  4. If you are eligible for email service, a message will confirm this. Click Yes to proceed.
  5. The following screen will provide confirmation that your account is scheduled to be set up, and that the request will be processed within 24 hours.

Once your email account is set up, you can log into the Outlook Web App  with your NetID and password.

Setting up your email alias:

By default, your Queen’s alumni email address takes the form of “” You can also set up an email alias, which is a more user-friendly version of your email address, such as “”

It is possible to set up your alias ( once your email account is created. However, you will not be able to use it until the account is activated (within 24 hours of the activation request.) You will also still need to use your NetID to log into Outlook Web App.

Some alumni have found that their email alias is generated in all caps., instead of To fix this problem, please contact the IT Support Centre at 613.533.6666 613.533.6666 , or fill out the online help form.

Name changes: NetIDs are linked to your student record. Therefore, your default alias options will use a combination of the  first and last name we have on record for you as a student. If you have changed your name and wish your email address to reflect your new name, follow these steps:
1. Using your NetID and password, log into MyQueensU.

2. Click on the red SOLUS tab in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.

3.Under 'personal information', choose 'Names' and 'Add a new name'. Under 'Name type,' choose 'Preferred'  and fill in the other fields.

4. Contact IT Support Services (online or by phone: 613-533-6000 613-533-6000 Mon-Fri 8 am - 5 pm ET)  to let us know of your name change. Once IT Support Services has updated your preferred name, your email alias choices will reflect this name.

To choose an email alias:

  1. Log in to the NetID Profile Manager with your NetID and password.
  2. Click the  Email Alias link on the home page.
  3. You will be presented with a list of four options from which to choose an alias. All are based on combinations of your first and last name. Please note that you can only chose your alias once, and you will not be able to change it to another one later.
  4. Once you have decided on an alias, click the Select button beside it. 
  5. You will be taken to a confirmation screen where you can choose your alias as your preferred email address instead of your NetID email address.

To choose a preferred email address:

Your preferred email address is the default address used in the “From” field when you compose messages in Office 365. It is not used to log into Outlook Web App.

Note that you can change your preferred email address at any time. You can also use both addresses to send and receive email. When choosing your alias as your preferred address, your NetID address will still remain active, and vice versa.

Publishing Options

The Queen's Alumni Global Address List (AGAL) is a listing of all Queen’s alumni who are using alumni email service and who have chosen to allow their information to be published in the AGAL. It allows other alumni to look up your name and email address in Office 365. This list is available only to Queen’s alumni, and is not accessible to Queen's faculty, staff or students. AGAL information is not published on any public or internal web pages.

When you first set up your alumni email account, your name and email address is published in the AGAL, unless you have chosen to have it hidden. You can change this setting at any time by following the instructions below.

To change your publishing options:

  1. Log in to the NetID Profile Manager with your NetID and password.
  2. Click the  Publishing Options link on the home page.
  3. If you do not want your name and Queen's email address published in the Alumni Global Address List, check the available box. 
  4. Click the Save button. Note that this change will be processed overnight.
