Created in 2009, this award celebrates the dedication and generosity of Kathleen (Beaumont) Hill, Arts'50, to her alma mater and community for more than 50 years.
To proudly carry Kathleen Hill's name and spirit for future generations of remarkable Queen's alumni in British Columbia, this award will be presented annually to the individual who best exemplifies her outstanding service, passionate advocacy, dedicated support, and contributions to the betterment of our University and our country.
Don is the President and CEO of Teck Resources Ltd., a BC company committed to responsible mining and mineral development with business units focused on copper, steelmaking coal, zinc and energy.
Don is currently a Governor of the B.C. Children’s Hospital Foundation in Vancouver and is Chair of the Campaign for B.C. Children, a capital campaign that aims to raise $200 million to build a new acute care hospital. He is also on the Board of Governors of the Royal Ontario Museum. In October 2011, Don was appointed to the federal Minister of Finance’s Economic Advisory Council, which provides advice to the Government of Canada on a broad range of fiscal, economic and financial issues. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Manulife Financial Corporation, the Board of Directors of the Canadian Council of Chief Executives, and the Executive Committee for the Governor General’s Canadian Leadership Conference 2012.
Don was recognized by the Vancouver Branch on September 19, 2012 for his dedication to Queen’s, his distinguished career in the business world, and his community leadership.
