Search Tips

Too many results returned?

  • To make your search more specific, try using more than one search criteria. Using multiple search fields allows you to narrow down the search criteria. For example, if you select "Ottawa" as the city and "Consultant" as career, your search would return only people who live in Ottawa AND work as consultants.

  • Make sure to deselect “Include past career info in search,” to exclude those individuals who have had a certain career in the past but are now working in a different field.

Too few results returned?

  • Is your search too specific? Try starting searching with a broad set of criteria and then narrow it down if necessary.

  • Try eliminating "City" and only include "Province/State" in your search.

  • Check how you’ve entered information in the search fields – have you included spaces, punctuation marks or extra characters? Try the search again without these.

  • Try searching one criteria at a time. For example, if you are looking for engineers who live in Boston and put both in your search, you will only get engineers who also live in Boston. Try searching just "Boston" or just "Engineers" to see what other results are returned.Be patient.

  • It takes time to build a volunteer network. Check back in a couple of months to see who has joined the program.
