Reunion Follow Up: September 14-16, 2012

Our great celebration began Friday, September 14 at 7:00 p.m. with a wonderful hot and cold buffet prepared by the Donald Gordon Centre, preceded by cocktails and a cash bar at 6:00 p.m.  Many thanks go to Claire Grazette of the Donald Gordon Centre and her staff.

Our Dean, Kimberly Woodhouse, and Faculty Development Officer Beth Wylie honoured us by attending both parts of the evening, and the Dean, in her talk to us, gave an outline of Queen’s plans for the years ahead and answered questions from the floor.

OUR SC’52 PERMANENT EXECUTIVE:
Harry Pinder – Harry was unable to attend because of medical treatment. He sent his best to all!
Al Lee – He advised us about 1 year ago that he was no longer able to travel.
Jim Airth – Jim came in 2007, as did Don Simpson. Both were very helpful in checking out hotel space this year. Jim had signed on for a cruise and found that he had to be in Quebec City, on board, on September 14th!!
Hugh Bignell – Hugh has been involved in every Reunion since 1952. Unfortunately Hugh unexpectedly had to undergo a heart by-pass September 15th. Both Hugh and Babs were really sorry they missed this Reunion.

After discussion amongst Jim, Don, and Hugh, arrangements were made to provide hotel space for Sc’52 at the Marriott Residence Inn. Shortly afterward, rooms at the Donald Gordon Centre also became available, so members had a choice!

As a result of Hugh’s unexpected absence, Don Simpson, the only Executive Member in attendance, became the Chair for the evening and performed with aplomb!!

We also had notes from 9 members who were unable to attend, wishing us a great Reunion!

Future Science’52 Reunions

Don Simpson advises that no vote was taken at the dinner concerning our next reunion. Don and I are quite ready to “test the waters” for fall 2015 – i.e. in 3 years’ time instead of 5!!

We’ll send a notice to all members in early 2015 regarding a possible reunion in September 2015 – but not on a big weekend when space is at a premium. If we can get 30 people we believe we could go ahead with a program at the Donald Gordon Centre similar to what we had this fall. To facilitate matters we have asked the Donald Gordon Centre about dinner space for a Friday evening and rooms. These should be available as long as we do not choose a Big Weekend when demand is very great.

All the best,

Don Simpson
Hugh Bignell
Jim Airth
