Kathleen Beaumont Hill Award 2012
Vancouver Branch
Many congratulations to Don Lindsay, Sc’80, the 2012 recipient of the Kathleen Beaumont Hill Award. This award is presented annually by the Vancouver Branch of the QUAA to an alumnus in recognition of his/her outstanding service both to Queen’s and to Canada.
In addition to his role as the President and CEO of international mining company Teck, Don is a generous and supportive philanthropist, dedicating his time and energy to organizations such as the BC Children’s Hospital in Vancouver, the Campaign for BC Children, and the United Way of Lower Mainland.
Johnson Award 2012
Calgary Branch
Congratulations are also extended to Bruce McFarlane, Artsci/PHE'78 and Janice Heard, Artsci/PHE'80, the 2012 recipients of the Calgary Johnson Award. This award pays tribute to lifelong contributors to Queen’s University, the Alumni Association, and the Calgary community.
Bruce and Janice have many professional accomplishments: Bruce has worked with several successful junior oil & gas companies, and Janice, a pediatrician, is the Executive Director of Alumni Affairs of the University of Calgary’s Faculty of Medicine. Bruce and Janice have been extremely active in both the Queen's community (establishing several bursaries supporting students and an endowment for Kinesiology and Health Studies Camp School) and in the Calgary community (work with the United Way, Salvation Army, Strathcona Tweedsmuir School, Foundation for Energy Education & Research in Calgary (FEER), CUPS and the Children's Cottage Society).
