Alumni Speaker Events

Developed in partnership with the AMS, these annual events connect current students to high-profile alumni such as television journalist Ali Velshi (Artsci'94), NASA Astronaut Dr. Andrew Feustel (PhD'95), Global Activist Amma Bonsu (Artsci'02, Artsci'03), Editor-in-Chief for the Globe & Mail, John Stackhouse (Com'85) and Anna Olson (Artsci'91), Chef and host of Bake with Anna on the Food Network.

Justice Hugh Fraser has served on the Ontario Court of Justice, the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal, and the Dublin Commission of Inquiry. He was an athlete and later an arbitrator, at both the Olympic and Commonwealth Games and was inducted to the Queen's University Track and Field Hall of Fame in 1994. Currently, he is Regional Senior Judge for the Ontario Court of Justice.

This event is held in partnership with the AMS and the Queen's Black Academic Society  in recognition of Black History Month.

 

 

  

 


 

summit-alan-mallory2.jpg Held on November 21, 2013 - From Everest to Queen's    

In 2008 Alan Mallory, Sc'07, and his family became the first family of four to climb to the highest point on earth, the summit of Mount Everest. It was an incredible journey filled with countless challenges and rewards.

Mr. Mallory's story is emotional, exciting and emphasizes the importance of approaching and overcoming major challenges in life. His presentation highlighted the value of leadership and associated professional skills. 

This event was held in partnership with the AMS and  Queen's Innovation Connector.

Held on October 30, 2013 - Launch of the Accessibility Hub  

Melissa Vassallo, Artsci'02,   Disability and Healthcare Advocate, returned to campus and shared her message to live life ‘Thriving‘ not just surviving.  She is the recent recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for her ongoing accomplishments in the area of transforming disability and accessiblity and rights through education, legislation and community service. 

Following the presentation, attendees had the opportunity to use the Queen's Accessibility Hub, the central online resource for accessibility at Queen's.
