Lang Pavilion on track for summer completion

Due entirely to philanthropic commitments from donors, Richardson Stadium underwent its first phase of redevelopment commencing in 2014, with the second phase (the stadium pavilion, known as the Lang Pavilion) now underway.

The construction of Lang Pavilion is progressing well and remains on track for substantial completion by July 2023 and a grand opening being planned for later in the fall.

The foundations for the new structure were completed at the end of August 2022, and the field level (lower level) enclosure, which includes the north, east, and west concrete walls as well as upper and lower floor slabs, was completed on Dec. 19, 2022.

Crews hope to have the weatherproofing of the ground (field) level of the pavilion completed by mid-February, and the installation of the upper (concourse) level structural steel, walls, and roof structure in place by early March. Once complete, the form of the pavilion will be visible from Hargreaves Way and Sir John A Macdonald Boulevard. None of the ongoing work will impact the current use of the stadium.

Once complete, the stadium will fully enclose the field, allowing access to the east and west stands, and allow users to circumnavigate the full stadium at the concourse level. The new pavilion will enhance the training and competition environment for varsity sports, as well as expand opportunities for varsity and recreation activities, make usage more gender inclusive and able to support a broad range of activities for students and community members, including the Junior Gaels.
