The Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures at Queen’s University invites applications from suitably qualified candidates interested in teaching a course in ARAB 100/6.0 Introductory Arabic (Modern Standard) and ARAB 200/6.0 Intermediate Modern Standard Arabic.  These are on-campus, introductory/intermediate lecture courses with an expected enrolment of ~35 students.  Candidates should have graduate training in relevant areas in Modern Standard Arabic, native or near-native fluency, and experience in teaching Modern Standard Arabic at the University level.   These are fall/winter term appointments for the period September 1, 2013 to April 30, 2014, with classes in session from September 9, 2013 to March 28, 2014.

A candidate qualified to teach may be considered for appointment to a Term Adjunct position as defined by the Collective Agreement for All Faculty, Librarians and Archivist between QUFA and Queen’s University. Remuneration will be in accordance with the Collective Agreement, and appointments are subject to funding or enrolment criteria. If a graduate student is teaching a course in a different discipline than they are registered, then they would be eligible for appointment as a Term Adjunct.

Course Description:

ARAB 100/6.0 Introductory Arabic (Modern Standard)
Introduction to the basic structures of Modern Standard Arabic. This course gives intensive training equally in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. In addition to three hours of classroom work and one hour tutorial, extensive use of audio-visual materials on CD-ROM is expected.

ARAB 200/6.0 Intermediate Modern Standard Arabic
This intensive intermediate-level course is designed to provide a review of the basic elements of Modern Standard Arabic and continues the development of students’ communicative skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking Arabic. It will offer an introduction to more complex syntactic and grammatical forms and structures, preparing students for carrying on a simple conversation, reading an intermediate level text, and understanding basic conversations.
