Visual Resource Unit (Room 323 Ontario Hall)

Purpose and Description

The primary function of the Visual Resources Unit is to support the teaching and research activities of the Department of Art through the provision of visual images appropriate formats. The collections consist of about 270,000 slides, CD-ROMs and videos, and 50,000 photographs for teaching purposes, providing extensive resources for the study of Western Art from prehistory to today. In addition, closed web study pages are being developed as needed.

Access and Opening Hours

The Visual Resources Unit is open to all Queen's faculty and students, with priority being given to members of the Department of Art. 

Please visit the WRMR lab in Ontario Hall 320for access to the Visual Resources Unit.

Guidelines for Collection Use

The following is only a general guideline. Please ask for assistance, we are happy to help.

Priority is given to faculty in the Department of Art. If you have reserved or borrowed a slide which will be needed in the Department, that slide may be recalled. Similarly, if a Department faculty member has a slide that you need particularly, the staff will make every effort to see if it can be made available for you.

When you find the slides you need, please be sure to replace each slide taken out of the drawer with a borrowing tag of the appropriate colour.

List each slide to be borrowed on a Slide Loan Form. Fill in all requested information and place the form in the 'On Reserve' Tray or 'In Use' Tray as appropriate. Forms and trays are in the circulation area by the main door.

You may borrow the slides, videos, and CDs for 24 hours, or by arrangement with the Coordinator.
