artignite: a celebration of music, theatre and visual arts

Now in its second year, artignite is an arts celebration that showcases more than 40 film, dance, theatre and visual art presentations featuring students and members of the Kingston cultural and arts community, and offers Kingston and visitors to Kingston a great opportunity to celebrate art in all forms.

artignite is an eclectic mix of shows, exhibitions, concerts and art activities on the Queen’s University campus and in downtown Kingston.

“Kingston is truly an artistic hub," says Principal Daniel Woolf, “It’s wonderful to have the opportunity to showcase all of this amazing talent. artignite builds stronger relationships between students, the University, and the community."

artignite will open with a gala festival event presented by the Reelout Film Festival entitled an EPIC MOVIE MASQUERADE featuring live entertainment and a Silent Auction. The masquerade follows the screening of the South Korean film A Frozen Flower.

Events on the artignite calendar include: concerts by the Kingston Symphony and Brasswerks; Cézanne’s Closet, a popular Union Gallery fundraiser that offers a work of art with every ticket; Exposure Arts Festival, a festival put on by the Queen’s Alma Mater Society Campus Activities Commission; and the Reelout Film Festival.

From art showings at the Agnes Etherington Art Centre and CFRC’s Fundrave, to the Grand Theatre’s presentation of Tango Buenos Aires, and the School of Music’s A Night on Broadway, the celebration has activities for the entire family.

artignite provides an incredible opportunity for Kingston residents and visitors to explore the Queen’s campus, and for students to venture into the city.

“We hope that artignite will be a catalyst for the community, Queen’s students and visitors to explore the many arts events and venues in the city,” says Brian McCurdy, Cultural Director for the City of Kingston.

For visitors to Kingston, artignite offers two exciting weeks of exploring the city’s historic downtown. Visitors can also enjoy Kingston’s downtown boutique shopping and unique restaurants.
