Office Faculty of Arts and Science
The 2011 Academic Plan identifies writing as one of the fundamental academic skills required by all graduates of Queen’s University. Recognizing that effective writing is a skill essential to both inquiry-based learning and communicating in the workplace, the Faculty of Arts and Science offers general and discipline-specific writing courses that enable students to develop their proficiency in writing while exploring a variety of formats and styles suitable for diverse audiences and purposes. Academic writing (WRIT) courses are overseen by the Faculty’s Writing Advisory Committee, which works in close collaboration with staff in the Writing Centre.
Advice to Students
Writing (WRIT) courses offered by the Faculty of Arts and Science may be used as electives in any Arts and Science undergraduate degree program and are available to students in other Faculties and Schools. Additional writing support is available at the Writing Centre, part of Queen’s Learning Commons, which offers workshops and one-to-one writing consultations to support students in thinking and writing effectively in all disciplines, at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
