2013-14 Fall Winter Registration

All Arts and Science students who wish to enroll in classes for the Fall Winter session should pay close attention to the information below.

June 10 to July 12:  Late Change of Plan

Students wishing to change their current program may submit a request using the Late Change of Plan web page (available June 10). All requests will be assessed by the appropriate department(s) and students whose request has been granted will be able to view the change in the SOLUS Student Centre, under the "My Academics" tab.  If a student's request has been denied, they will be notified by email.

Students should note that admission to some Plans is highly competitive and may require specific prerequisites. You should also note that it may take you longer than the normal four years to complete your degree as you may have some catching up to do in order to complete all of the requirements for your new Plan. It is highly recommended that you contact the Department concerned for advice about changing your Plan.

DO NOT request a Change of Plan through this process if you are:

  • wanting to transfer to Bachelor of Music.  Such students should contact Student Services;
  • an upper year transfer student who wishes to change to a closed program/plan;
  • a Dual or Second Degree student.  Such students should apply through the Ontario University Application Centre (OUAC);
  • an upper year student who would like to drop the Minor component of your Plan. Students who wish to drop their Minor Plan should send an email to asc.registration@queensu.ca with their name, student ID and any other pertinent information.

NOTE:  it may take up to 10 business days for a decision to be made.

HINT:  If you do not want to make any changes to your program or plan then you should not submit a Change of Plan request.

Important Reminder:  Clear any outstanding debts to the University

Check your Finances in the SOLUS Student Centre to ensure that you do not have any outstanding debts. You will not be able to participate in the registration process unless your debts are cleared.

June 17:  View the Course Timetable on SOLUS

The course timetable lists all of the classes that will be offered in the Fall Winter session along with the class meeting times.  Not every course listed in the Arts and Science Calendar is offered every year so be sure to check the timetable.  Once you know which classes you want to take, add them to your shopping cart beginning July 2.

HINT:  Before leaving your shopping cart be sure to click the Validate button.  This will check to see that you meet the requirements (prerequisites, etc) for the classes that you have chosen.  It will also check to make sure that you do not have any timetable conflicts.  If you need an override on a class you must contact the department offering the class to obtain a permission number.

July 2:  View your Enrollment Appointment Time on SOLUS

All students are given an Enrollment Appointment Time to enrol in classes.  Enrollment Appointment Times are randomly generated according to your level at University.  Enrollment Appointment Times cannot be changed.

July 15 to 28:  Finish Enrolling in your classes on SOLUS

When your Enrollment Appointment Time begins, access the SOLUS Student Centre to Finish Enrolling in your classes.  If there is space available in the classes that you have selected you will enrolled in those classes.

HINT:  You are not enrolled in your classes until you complete this step!

If you have any outstanding debts owing to the University you will not be permitted to add courses.  Ensure that all debts are cleared before your Enrollment Appointment Time begins.

NOTE:  Full-time students are allowed to enroll in a maximum of 15 units per term. Students who wish to exceed this limit may do so once Open Enrolment begins on September 4th.

NEW:

July 29 to August 2:  Enrollment Restrictions are removed from courses

Some departments may put restrictions on courses in order to ensure that the students who need those courses receive priority.  Beginning July 29, those restrictions will be removed from courses.  If you were unable to add a class due to an enrolment restriction earlier, this may be your chance to add that class.

NOTE:  Full-time students are allowed to enroll in a maximum of 15 units per term. Students who wish to exceed this limit may do so once Open Enrolment begins on September 4th.

September 1:  Full tuition payment is due

Access your student financial information in the SOLUS Student Centre to view your tuition payment. Full tuition is due on September 1st.  For information on tuition payment methods please visit the Office of the University Registrar

September 4:  Open Enrollment Begins

Open enrollment (aka Add/Drop) begins on September 4. During open enrollment you may make changes to your classes provided you have paid your tuition in full.

Financial Drop Deadlines

The financial deadline is the final date to drop a course and receive a full tuition refund. Should you drop a course after the financial deadline but before the academic deadline, you may receive a partial tuition refund. Any refund will be credited back to your student account. Refund cheques can be requested through the Office of the University Registrar. For more information, see http://www.queensu.ca/registrar/currentstudents/fees/refund.html

Please NOTE    International Students are no longer required to pre-register in UHIP. Your UHIP enrolment will occur automatically based on your registration with Queen’s and the UHIP fee for single coverage will be applied directly to your SOLUS account.  If you have dependents (spouse or children) residing with you in Ontario, then you must visit the International Centre to include these members on your UHIP plan within the first 30 days or a $ 500 penalty will apply.
