My name is Vanessa, and I am in my fourth year of Environmental Science with a Specialization in Biology. I am currently working on my fourth year thesis in the Friesen Lab which focuses on conservation genetics, specifically in birds. In the future I hope to do one of two very different things; either science media (for example writing for National Geographic) or environmental public health. Although I seem to have myself together now, first year was a very difficult time for me for many reasons. Trust me-pretty much anything that could have gone wrong in first year went wrong for me! However through several resources I have found my way and couldn't be happier to be a part of the Queen’s community! This is why I am so excited to be a PEER advisor- to let first years know that it is totally normal if things aren’t going as you might have expected and that everything will work out in the end! I am here to share my experiences as means of helping you reach your goals and work through any problems you might be experiencing. Believe me when I say Queen’s is a wonderful school and you will find your niche with just a little help.
