Teaching Assistantship Opportunities

AVAILABLE: Teaching Assistant/Academic Assistant positions to support online offering of ARTF 101 through Arts and Science Online


For the Summer 2024 term, Arts and Science Online is seeking Teaching Assistants for ARTF 101: Fundamentals of Drawing and Painting. For information about this course, please visit our website.
Responsibilities:
The teaching assistant will be expected to grade assignments, facilitate online discussion forums, and be available online to assist students with course work. The primary purpose of these positions is to support undergraduate teaching in an online course. More specific expectations will be covered at the beginning of the term.
Requirements:
- Candidates should have a BFA in Visual Art or equivalent
- Complete applications will include a cover letter, CV (max. one page), and a portfolio of 5 related images (emphasizing drawing/painting) with title, medium, and size.
- Previous experience with online courses, familiarity with an online learning management platform such as onQ, Brightspace/Desire2Learn, and videoconferencing software (eg Blackboard Collaborate, Zoom) is also an asset.
- Some training and preparation are needed before the start of the course.
- Candidates must be flexible in terms of availability during online office hours.
- Candidates must be willing to provide students with timely and constructive feedback in OnQ.
- Must have access to the internet and a computer that meets minimum requirements.
- Excellent communication skills are essential, as is superior computer proficiency and ability to work closely with undergraduate students.
- Successful candidates will be expected to have continuous access to high-speed internet in order to provide prompt online advice and electronically monitor the progress of students.

Contract Hours and Rate of Pay
Positions will be offered only if course enrolment allows. The number of hours of work will be determined by actual enrolment numbers close to the start of term.
The rate of pay for Teaching Assistants is commensurate with the rates specified in the collective agreements of Teaching Assistants (PSAC).
The rate of pay for Academic Assistants is commensurate with the rates specified in the collective agreements of Academic Assistants (USW2).

ARTF260 – Studies in Studio Art
Fine Art Program in the Department of Art History and Art Conservation 
Queen’s University, Kingston, ON CAN K7L 3N6

The Fine Art Program, in the Department of Art History and Art Conservation at Queen’s University invites applications from suitably qualified candidates interested in teaching a course in Studies in Studio Art (ARTF260).  This is an in-person teaching, introductory course with an expected enrolment of 25 students. Candidates should have a M.FA. or Ph.D, in Studio Art or Visual Art and teaching experience at the University level in Studio Art or Visual Art.  This is a summer term appointment for the period June 27 to August 22, 2024, with classes in session from July 4 to August 15, 2024.

Course Description: 
ARTF 260  Studies in Studio Practice  Units: 3.00  
Non-B.F.A. students work with media, techniques and strategies of contemporary and earlier artists. Coursework includes drawing, painting, and studio visits. Discussion on artists' writings on studio practice/theory, and art practice as research. Emphasis on understanding process rather than skill development.
Requirements: Prerequisite None. Recommended ARTH 120/6.0. 
Note This course cannot be used as credit towards a BFA Program.
