Other Awards - Requiring Separate Application
Karen Huntley Memorial Award
Established by family and friends in memory of Karen Huntley, an undergraduate student in Biology who died in May 1990. Awarded to a student in an Honours Biology or an Environmental Science SSP Biology degree program who will be doing a field course or field research at Queen's University Biology Station or at another site in conservation, environmental biology or sustainable forestry. This award will support expenses incurred at the field site. Selection will be made by the Faculty of Arts and Science Awards Committee based upon nomination from the Department of Biology.
How to apply: Submit a letter of application to the Undergraduate Office, Department of Biology, Rm. 3109d Bioscience Complex.
Application Deadline: March 31st.
The Gray Family Student Initiatives Fund
The Dean is launching a competition for grants from the Gordon Gray Student Initiatives Fund. Last year, the endowed fund supported students who volunteered at an elephant sanctuary and did research on tree swallows at the QUBS and sharks in San Francisco Bay.
This year, there is $4,770 to be disbursed. Please encourage students to submit one-to two-page proposals with budgets to the Dean, in care of Sue Bedell.
Undergraduate students registered in the Faculty of Arts and Science are eligible; applicants do not necessarily have to have a faculty supervisor connected with their project. Students who plan to use the grant to undertake volunteer work following graduation are ineligible.
The terms of reference for the Gray Fund are as follows:
Mr. Gordon Gray, BComm ‘ 50 and his family established the Fund in order to provide support to a student or group of students “who would like to write a report, attend a conference, do non-profit work, or other initiatives in the area of preservation of wildlife species”.
