September 2009 will see the first intake of the new collaborative program in Biostatistics. Offered jointly by the Departments of Community Health & Epidemiology and Mathematics and Statistics, it is a one year intensive program that gives students a foundation in the theory and applications of the broad field of Biostatistics.
The program is targeted to students with an honours B.Sc degree wtih high standing in statistics, mathematics and computer science or in a program in biology, life sciences, or health sciences with strong analytical skills. The program will be completed by course work and a 4 month practicum.
The program is created in response to the growing demand in Canada and the US for qualified Master's level biostatisticians in academic and industry-sponsored epidemiologic and health services research. There is a growing need for biostatisticians in pharmaceutical companies, research institutes, hospitals, and biological and life science research groups in universities.
