The Bader International Study Centre (BISC), the UK-based campus of Queen’s University (Canada), is seeking a full-time live-in Assistant Student Services Manager (ASSM) in the Student Services department. The ASSM is responsible for assisting the Student and Enrolment Services Manager in maintaining a safe, healthy, learning and living environment, based upon mutual respect and dignity, which promotes academic success, leadership development, citizenship and involvement, personal growth, and inclusion among residence students. This will be a visible and important position in developing the residence community. Student Services is going through a period of transition with a number of new staff starting in Fall 2017. Consequently we are looking for a dynamic individual with relevant supervisory experience, ideally in a professional Student Services/Student Affairs setting.
Located in the fifteenth century Herstmonceux Castle in in 550 acres of beautiful Sussex countryside, the BISC prides itself on offering rigorous, innovative education to students from Canada and around the world. Academic programs at the undergraduate level include Arts, Science, and Concurrent Education for First Year students, and Humanities, Commerce and Social Sciences for Upper Year students, and specialised short programs for Upper Year students in areas including Engineering, Health Sciences, Digital Humanities, and Archaeology, as well as Law at the post-graduate level.
Reporting to the Student and Enrolment Services Manager, this position offers the opportunity to take a lead role in planning, and overseeing, the provision of campus-wide programming to support the health and wellbeing of students and foster a sense of community. The successful applicant will work closely with stakeholders on and off campus in the UK, as well as Residence Life and other departments as appropriate at Queen’s University (Canada).
Key responsibilities include administering the volunteering program, overseeing the local community outreach program (Friends of Herstmonceux), exploring opportunities to connect students with their peers locally, and investigating ways to make events at Queen’s University accessible to BISC students, as well as general campus-wide programming, and assisting students in accessing key health services to ensure their physical and mental wellbeing.
Applicants are expected to be educated to degree standard or equivalent and have suitable experience delivering programming in a university environment. Experience in, or familiarity with, the Canadian post-secondary sector would be an asset.
Applicants must be eligible to work in the UK; please note this position is not eligible for a Tier 2 visa. Due to the rural location, applicants must hold a full clean driving licence. Applicants must successfully complete an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
