Sample Itinerary

Below is a sample itinerary from a recent Winter Term Midterm Trip to Belgium and France.

Before the trip you will receive a package with the itinerary, rooming lists, and maps of the sites you are to visit. You will also receive an academic handout package with journal articles and information on your destinations.

Monday


Time Activity
0415
An early start! Load luggage onto coaches and make sure you have your passport (and visa, if necessary)
0430 Breakfast in the Dining Hall and make up packed lunches
0515
Coaches leave from Castle reception - time to sleep!
0700 Coaches arrive at Folkestone Eurotunnel Terminal.
0758 Coaches depart Folkestone on Eurotunnel. Set your timepiece ahead one hour.
0933 Arrive in Calais, France.  Coaches travel to Sanctuary Wood passing through Ypres & the Menin Gate.
1130 Visit to Sanctuary Wood. On arrival History students to visit the Hill 62 Canadian Memorial with instructor first, while other students visit the Sanctuary Wood Museum, Trench System & Cemetery. Then History students visit Museum and other students visit the Memorial.
1300 Depart Sanctuary Wood & travel to Tyne Cot.
1330 Visit to Tyne Cot Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery.
1415 Depart Tyne Cot for Brussels.
1600 (approx) Arrive at hotel in Brussels for check-in.  Enjoy a free evening.

Tuesday


Time Activity
0900 All students (except those in first year English) meet in hotel lobby and divide into groups 1-6 for guided walking tour of Brussels.
0915 All first year English students, instructor, and Student Life Coordinator (SLC) depart hotel on Coach B and travel to Tervuren.
1000
English students visit the Royal Museum for Central Africa (RMCA), Tervuren.
1100 (approx) Guided walking tour of Brussels ends in Grand Place. Free time.
1230
English students depart the RMCA in coach and travel back to Brussels.
1315 Coach drops off English students at the coach parking bays next to the Central Railway Station in Rue du Mercier.
1400
Second year English students meet their instructor at the Musée de la Bande Dessinée for guided tour & visit.
1400
First year English students meet SLC at the Brussels International tourist information office at the Town Hall, Grand Place. Divide into groups 7 & 8 for guided walking tour of Brussels.
1600 Guided walking tour of Brussels ends in Grand Place.
1630 Coaches depart Grand Place, Brussels for Paris, France

Arrive at hotel in Paris for check-in

Wednesday


Time Activity
0830
Coaches depart hotel with all students for optional transfer into Paris centre.
0900 Coaches drop off Art History students, instructor, and SLC at the Musée d'Orsay.  Coaches continue with all others to drop off at Place de la Concorde.
0945 All non-Art History students visit the Musée du Louvre. Entry to the Pyramid via the Richelieu Passage then, once inside the Pyramid, entry to the Museum via the Denon Wing.
1130 Optional meeting for first year Art History students with instructor in Musée d'Orsay in front of Manet's 'Dejeuner sur l'herbe'.
1400
All non-Art History students visit the Musée d'Orsay.
1545
Art History students meet instructor at the Musée du Louvre, by the Pyramid.
1600 Art History students visit the Musée du Louvre. Entry to the Pyramid via the Richelieu Passage then, once inside the Pyramid, entry to the Museum via the Denon Wing.
1800 Coaches depart 'Parking de la Reine' coach park (Champs Elysees corner of Place de la Concorde) for optional transfer to hotel.
2000 Coaches depart hotel with Student Services Manager for optional coach transfer from hotel to Pont Neuf.
2130
All meet at Pont Neuf for optional River Seine cruise.
2200 Optional River Seine cruise departing from Pont Neuf with Bateaux Les Vedettes du Pont Neuf. Remember to wear warm clothing.
2300 (approx) At the end of the river cruise French students meet instructor and SLC at Pont Neuf for optional pay as you go trip to Le Caveau Jazz Club, 5 Rue de la Huchette.

Thursday


Time Activity
0915
Coach departs hotel with all first year History students, SLC, and instructor for transfer to Musée Jean Moulin with optional transfer for other students.
0945 Coach departs hotel for optional transfer to Paris Centre.
1015 (approx) Coach drops off students taking literary walking tour and instructor near Notre Dame. Coach continues on to Place de la Concorde.
1030 Coach drops off all other students at Place de la Concorde
1330 All coaches depart 'Parking de la Reine' coach park with instructors and SLCs for optional transfer to Versailles.
1330 Geography students meet instructor at 'Parking de la Reine' coach park and take Metro from 'Concorde' to 'La Défense Grande Arche' for walking tour of La Défense.
1330 Optional literary walking tour of Paris with instructor and  SLC starts at Notre Dame cathedral. Please note there will be a limited number of places available (see instructor to sign up).
1730 All coaches depart Versailles and return to hotel.
2000 All coaches depart hotel with SLCs for optional coach transfer from hotel to Notre Dame (for Latin Quarter) & the Eiffel Tower. Free evening.

Friday


Time Activity
0900
Load luggage onto coaches and check out at reception (hand keys back in and pay any room bills). Please make sure you have your passports (and visa, if necessary) in your hand luggage.
0930 All coaches depart hotel for optional transfer into Paris centre.
1000 All coaches drop off students at Place de la Concorde. Free time for all
1215 History students, SLC, and instructor meet Coach at 'Parking de la Reine' coach park (Champs Elysees corner of Place de la Concorde).
1230 Coach A departs Paris and travels to Saint-Omer.
1430 All other students (ie. those not in History) meet at coaches at 'Parking de la Reine' coach park (Champs Elysees corner of Place de la Concorde).
1445 Non-History coaches depart Paris and travel to Calais (no stop en-route).
1530 History coach arrives at La Coupole, Saint-Omer for visit (with audio guides). Please have warm clothing for the start of the tour.
1800 History coach departs La Coupole for journey to Calais.
1850 (approx) All coaches meet at Calais and check-in.
1950 Depart Calais on ferry (crossing with P&O Stena). Restaurants, shops and washrooms are onboard.
2005 Arrive Dover. Set your timepieces back 1 hour.
2230 Arrive back at Bader Hall for sandwiches, snacks & drinks.
