Dean's Message
The issues facing society have become increasingly complex during the past few decades. In response, the practice of management has evolved to encompass skills and abilities in many different areas – from leadership and communication, to strategic planning and negotiation, to a broad understanding of global and cross-cultural issues. The Bachelor of Commerce program at Queen’s School of Business reflects this ever-changing environment.

The Commerce program prepares graduates for positions of leadership in organizations. Through a wide range of required and optional courses, students build a solid base in the underlying disciplines and functional areas of management. Students are encouraged to gain international experience through our extensive exchange program, which includes 49 universities around the world. Students also have the opportunity to expand their perspective by exploring areas of study outside business, which helps them develop the flexible thinking critical for successful leaders. The Commerce program provides both the intellectual and social environment to prepare graduates for a promising and productive career.

In addition to having exceptional students and a commitment to academic excellence, our growing reputation as a leader among business schools is derived from the scholarship and diversity of our faculty. Queen’s School of Business promotes a balance between teaching and research: the faculty have enabled Queen’s to offer excellent programs in management education while contributing significantly to management research. Quality programs and talented faculty led to the School receiving accreditation in 1998 by AACSB, the world’s foremost business school accreditation organization.

The course of study outlined in this calendar will produce graduates of the highest calibre who are committed to service and leadership in both the private and public sectors.

Best wishes for a successful year at Queen’s!
