12    Admission Under the Mature Student Regulation

The Mature Student Regulation is applicable to candidates who:

Such candidates will be admitted to a degree program as part-time students provided they first complete, with a minimum of 60 per cent, the equivalent of a 1.0-credit course offered for degree credit by the Faculty of Arts and Science, Queen's University. Students who obtain at least 50 per cent but not 60 per cent on this credit, may subsequently complete a second credit and must then obtain an average of at least 60 per cent on the 2.0 credits. Although students admitted under the Mature Student Regulation may meet the 60 per cent requirement on the average of two 0.5-credit courses, they may not enrol in both courses in the same term.

a    The course(s) may be taken during any term or session and will count toward a degree program for candidates admitted under the Mature Student Regulation. Candidates may register for only one course in a term.

 

b    Students who fail to obtain 50 per cent or better on the first credit or an average of 60 per cent on 2.0 credits, or who fail a course under the Mature Student Regulation, may not take further courses in the Faculty of Arts and Science.

 

c    Students who do not meet the admission conditions of the Mature Student category will be notified by Undergraduate Admission that they are 'Not Eligible to Proceed - Conditions of Admission not Met' and a ruling stating this will be added to his or her record. Students may not appeal this ruling because it is the direct result of a particular level of academic performance.

 

d    Students who are assigned an incomplete grade or a deferred exam will not be permitted to register in further courses until the grade is changed to a passing grade.

 

e    Students admitted under the Mature Student Regulation must comply with all the regulations of the Faculty of Arts and Science, and may access the Faculty's procedure for appeal of academic decisions with respect to courses completed as a Mature Student.

 

f    Students admitted under the Mature Student Regulation who either complete a minimum of 4.0 Queen's credits with an overall average of 65 percent and no failures in their most recent year, or who complete a minimum of 3.0 Queen's credits with an overall average of 75 percent and no failures, will be eligible for full-time studies.
