Regulation 28    Queen's Course Requirements for Arts and Science Degrees
Degree requirements are stated in the Academic Programs section of this Calendar. Students may offer courses for credit from other institutions and from other Faculties or Schools at Queen's toward these degrees, subject to the following requirements. Students already holding a first degree should also refer to Regulation 27, Dual and Second Degrees.

Students must complete a majority of the credits required for both the degree program and the concentration, excluding any supporting courses (see chart at www.queensu.ca/calendars/artsci/Degree_Programs_at_a_Glance.html), through the Faculty of Arts and Science at Queen’s. The required number of credits for individual degree programs is described below.  
 
a    ARTS, SCIENCE AND COMPUTING DEGREES

i    B.A. DEGREE
Students must complete a minimum of 8.0 credits through Queen’s including 3.0 credits in the minor concentration, 2.0 of which must be at the 200 level or above.

A transfer student from another university may be granted up to 7.0 transfer credits.

ii    B.CMP.(GENERAL), B.P.H.E.(GENERAL), B.SC.(GENERAL) DEGREES
Students must complete a minimum of 8.0 credits through Queen’s including 5.0 credits in the general concentration, 3.0 of which must be at the 200 level or above.

A transfer student from another university may be granted up to 7.0 transfer credits. 
 
iii    B.SC.(GENERAL) DEGREE/DIPLOMA IN X-RAY TECHNOLOGY
Students must complete a minimum of 8.0 credits through Queen’s including 5.0 credits in the general concentration, 3.0 of which must be at the 200 level or above. A maximum of 7.0 credits from other post-secondary institutions, including 5.0 credits from the Eastern Ontario School of X-Ray Technology, may be transferred to the degree program.
 
iv    B.A.(HONOURS) DEGREE
Students must complete a minimum of 10.0 credits through Queen’s, including:
  • 6.0 credits in the major concentration (alone or in a major-minor or major-general combination);
  • 4.0 credits in each medial concentration;
  • 8.0 credits in the special field concentration;
  • 3.0 credits in the minor concentration of the major-minor degree combination; and
  • 5.0 credits in the general concentration of the major-general degree combination (see ai, ii).
A transfer student from another university may be granted up to 9.0 transfer credits. These transfer students may be admitted to a program only on the recommendation of the Department(s) concerned. An applicant may be admitted to the final year only in exceptional circumstances and with the permission of the Associate Dean (Studies).
 
v    B.CMP.(HONOURS), B.SC.(HONOURS) DEGREES
Students must complete a minimum of 11.0 credits through Queen’s, including:
  • 6.0 credits in the major concentration (alone or in a major-minor or major-general combination);
  • the majority of credits required for the subject of specialization concentration; 
  • 4.0 credits in each medial concentration (B.Sc.[Hons.] degree only);
  • 3.0 credits in the minor concentration of the major-minor degree combination; and
  • 5.0 credits in the general concentration of the major-general degree combination (see ai, ii).
A transfer student from another university may be granted up to 9.0 transfer credits. These transfer students may be admitted to a program only on the recommendation of the Department(s) concerned. An applicant may be admitted to the final year only in exceptional circumstances and with the permission of the Associate Dean (Studies).
 
b    FINE ART DEGREES

i    B.F.A.(GENERAL) DEGREE
Students must complete a minimum of 8.0 credits through Queen’s including 4.0 credits in fine art courses and 3.0 credits in art history courses.

A transfer student from another university may be granted up to 7.0 transfer credits.

ii    B.F.A.(HONOURS) DEGREE
Students must complete a minimum of 11.0 credits through Queen’s including 6.0 credits in fine art courses and 3.0 credits in art history courses.
 
A transfer student from another univesity may be granted up to 9.0 transfer credits.

c    BACHELOR OF MUSIC DEGREE
Students must complete a minimum of 11.5 credits towards the B.Mus. degree through Queen’s, including at least 7.5 music credits (core and/or option).

A transfer student from another university may be granted a maximum of 8.0 music credits (core and/or option) and a maximum of 6.0 non-music elective credits, up to a total of 10.0 transfer credits.
 
d    BACHELOR OF PHYSICAL AND HEALTH EDUCATION DEGREE
Students must complete a minimum of 11.0 credits through Queen’s towards the B.P.H.E.(Honours) degree, including 7.0 concentration credits as specified in the Physical and Health Education chapter, Regulation 3b.
 
A transfer student from another university may be granted up to 9.0 transfer credits. These transfer students may be admitted to a program only on the recommendation of the School of Kinesiology and Health Studies.
