Facilities State-of-the-art facilities for research in the fields of general and molecular bacteriology, virology, and immunology are available within the departments of Biomedical and Molecular Sciences and Biology, and in the Gastrointesintal Diseases Research Unit (GIDRU). In addition, the facilities within the teaching hospitals and public health laboratories are available for clinical and diagnostic research programs.
Financial Assistance All Graduate students are considered for Queen's Fellowships, but are also encouraged to seek financial support through fellowships and studentships from external granting agencies. Support may be available from research grants held by members of faculty and from teaching assistantships funded by the University.
Fields of Research Active research programs are carried on in molecular microbial pathogenesis, including aspects of bacterial/viral physiology, cellular immunology, molecular virology, clinical microbiology, and biotechnology.  There is an emphasis on host-pathogen interactions in much of the Program members’ research.  Ties exist with groups located in local public health and hospital laboratories, and allied university departments.
Programs of Study Applicants are accepted under the general regulations of the School of Graduate Studies into either Master of Science or Doctor of Philosophy degrees. Both programs consist of research and preparation of a thesis, the field of research to be chosen in consultation with the supervisor. Course work depends upon the experience and field of interest of the students.
