14. Scots Pine
        Pinus sylvestris

Easily distinguished by its blue-green foliageand orange bark, the Scots Pine is the most cosmopolitan of the world'spines. Commonly used as a Christmas tree, it is one of the best sourcesof soft wood for boat-building. Historically, its resins and oils wereharvested as a remedy for the common cold.
