13. Hybrid Horsechestnut
         Aesculus spp. 

Often mistaken for the native American chestnut (Castanea dentata) with its edible chestnut fruit, the name horsechestnut
(Aesculus  spp.) originated in Europe when the nut was determined to be inedible. A number of intermediate forms exist
such as this specimen. (See also #26)
