         Acer saccharum

Displaying spectacular colours in autumnand chosen as Canada's national tree, its leaf is displayed on the centerof the Canadian flag. Renowned as the source of the sugary sap used formaple syrup. Its hardwood is valuable in the construction of furnitureand production of plywood.
