A general approach to design and specific species for each space are suggested. The priority ranking for funding and upgrades is based on these criteria: tree condition, value of the space and maintenance required. The overall improvement concept for the main and west campus illustrates how the recommended redevelopment and maintenance may be applied. It represents a vision of the campus with a renewed urban forest and as such is quite conceptual. Detailed site design would be required for landscape reconstruction projects. The base map for the improvement concept is a composite of existing conditions and those selected from the 1994 Campus Plan Demonstration Plan. This was done on purpose, recognizing the longer time horizon for some areas of the Demonstration Plan to be realized. Therefore, where existing conditions are likely to remain for the near term, existing conditions are shown so that remedial actions can proceed, but with longer term development intentions in mind. Excerpts of the overall improvement concept also appear with the discussion of each space. The table below summarizes the priorities.
