36 Miller Lot and Bruce Wing
37. Miller, Humphrey, Kathleen Ryan Halls: Existing Condition
38. Miller, Humphrey, Kathleen Ryan Halls: Improvement Concept
6 MILLER, HUMPHREY, KATHLEEN RYAN HALLS|
This space has good potential for reclamation as a landscape quadrangle, adding an important link in the campus green system, between the east core and Union Street.
Priority rating: 3
Currently this space is dominated by parking (Miller lot), with minimal perimeter planting. The existing plantings are not significant. Newer plantings of Columnar Maple and Cedar trees exist along the east face of Bruce Wing. The plantings of Birch, Maple and Crabapple between Bruce Wing and Jackson Hall are in poor condition. The Birch is dead and should be removed. The Red Maple to the north of Kathleen Ryan Hall is also in poor condition.
Although this space is designated as a low priority space in the short term, it is of high value for reclamation in the long term. When parking can be relocated from this location in future, this space should be redeveloped as a quadrangle. New plantings of value are not recommended for this area in the short term, as redevelopment of this area would require complete reconstruction. The existing trees are not worth preserving and new plantings would likely be lost during reconstruction.
Acer rubrum, Red Maple
