Required Readings

Textbook: Modern Elementary Statistics, by Freund & Perles, 12th Ed.

Chapters 1 to 5:

all (In 3.5 we will use a slightly different formula for fractiles, and will construct a slightly more complicated and more commonly used box-and-whisker plot which indicates the presence of outliers.)

Chapter 6 all, (in 6.7 you will only be tested on the situation with A & B; not A, & B1, B2…)
Chapter 7:

only 7.1

Chapter 8:

omit 8.6

Chapter 9:

omit 9.1. You are only responsible for knowing what normal probability plots are, why and how you use them – you will not be asked to construct a normal probability plot. Chapter 10: omit 10.2, 10.3, 10.4, 10.5, 10.10

Chapter 10:

omit 10.2, 10.3, 10.4, 10.5, 10.10

Chapter 11 to 13:

all

Chapter 14:

omit 14.1

Chapter 15:

all of 15.1, 15.2, 15.3; 15.8, & 15.9 only to the extent considered in class

Chapter 16:

all of 16.1, 16.2, 16.3; & 16.4 only to the extent considered in class

Chapter 17:

all of 17.1, 17.2; in 17.3 you are responsible for the t test, not the Z test

Chapter 18 18.2 and 18.5 only
Students are also responsible for any additional material presented in online lectures and in the bound PowerPoint slides. Students are not responsible for any material in the text that is not also covered in the lectures.
