From November 25th to December 10th of 2016, the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence Campaign will take place around the world and thousands of individuals and organizations will raise awareness about gender-based violence as a truly global issue. In Canada, Women In International Security Canada (WIIS Canada) and its partners are working towards creating a cohesive national campaign. We believe that your organization can be an invaluable contributor in this and would like to invite you to participate by hosting an event or spearheading an advocacy initiative.

The goal of the 16 Days campaign in Canada is to promote a nation-wide series of events and initiatives under the theme of “From Peace in the Home to Peace in the World: Make Education Safe for All.” Your event can take different formats, from a panel discussion or debate to a film screening. Past events have involved creative projects such as a lantern making workshop for a December 6th Vigil. You can also organize an online social media event, for example, a Twitter “Teach-in,” during which facts on and information about gender-based violence is continuously shared with each tweet bearing the campaign hashtag. You can view past event calendars on the WIIS Canada’s 16 Days website for ideas.
