(Archaeology, Greek and Roman Studies)
Do you like time-travel, languages, adventure stories, social history, politics, art, architecture, theatre, tragedy, comedy, science, medicine, poetry, military matters, magic or mythology? If you answered yes, then the Department of Classics at Queen's has something for you!
Classics is the study of ancient cultures - primarily Greek and Roman - around the Mediterranean basin. You will examine all aspects of these civilizations: their languages and literature, history, religion, myth, philosophy, art and archaeology. As well, you may wish to experience hands-on exploration through the Department's archaeological digs, or an international field placement.
Through comparison to the early, formative periods of our civilization, Classics can lead to a wider appreciation of human values and achievements, and a more objective understanding of ourselves and our times.
For details about Classics plans and courses, please see the Arts & Science Undergraduate Calendar.
