All MSc and PhD student research proposals employing human research subjects must receive ethics clearance prior to commencing work, regardless of whether the primary supervisor has received ethics clearance.
Students must complete the online Course in Human Research Participant Protection (CHRPP) - SGS 804 offered by the School of Graduate Studies and then prepare an ethics review application for their thesis work. The Primary Supervisor is responsible for initiating this process and providing a copy of the Ethics Clearance to the Graduate Coordinator to be placed on the student’s file.
Generally, ethics approval will be sought after the thesis proposal has been presented and any changes suggested by the faculty reviewers have been made. An Ethics Review form is available from Research Services.
