FAQs for PhD Students



  • What academic background is required for admission into the PhD program in Epidemiology?

Applicants to our program normally have an MSc in Epidemiology or a related discipline.  Those students who do not have a Master's in Epidemiology should have taken epidemiology and biostatistics courses at a graduate level.

  • In addition to the online application, what other material should I send to the Department?

The Department requires a copy of your MSc abstract and a full curriculum vitae.

  • Can I apply for the PhD program if my Master's degree was non-thesis based (eg. MPH)?

Students may be accepted into the program with a non-thesis based Master's degree.  However,  applicants would need to demonstrate that they  have some previous research experience (eg. first authored research publications).

  • Is a GRE required for your PhD program?

GRE scores are required for those students applying from a non-Canadian university.

  • Can I register as a part-time student?

Our PhD program is a full-time program.  Part-time students are accepted only in exceptional circumstances.

  • Can I complete part of my PhD degree off-campus?

The department requires PhD students to be on campus three days a week at a minimum.
