Undergraduate Education in Community Health and Epidemiology

Epidemiology is often considered the core science of Public Health and is a field of research that draws on expertise from many disciplines, including medicine and allied health, mathematics, statistics, life sciences, environmental sciences, ethics, sociology, and policy studies.   The Department contributes to the Queen’s Faculty of Arts and Science undergraduate program by offering three undergraduate courses in epidemiology and biostatistics to students in the Life Sciences program.

The undergraduate courses in epidemiology offer an ideal option for students interested in learning about multidisciplinary approaches to preventing disease and promoting health on a population-level.   They are  intended to provide students with a useful foundation for pursuing an advanced degree in Epidemiology or Public Health.

Students interested in taking a course offered by the department may do so as an elective in their program. An introductory statistics course such as STAT263 is a required pre-requisite for the undergraduate epidemiology program.

Information regarding registration for these courses is available through the Life Sciences Office in Room 224, Botterell Hall (lifesci@queensu.ca); Katherine Rudder, Phone 533-6000, extension 36527)
