Queen’s, USW Local 2010 ratify first collective agreement

Members of the United Steelworkers Local 2010 bargaining unit have ratified a first collective agreement, with a majority of employees voting to accept the contract offer. The university has also, on the recommendation of its bargaining committee, ratified the agreement.

Tentative first collective agreement reached with USW

Collective bargaining between Queen’s University and the United Steelworkers (USW) began in November 2011. On July 5, after several days of further negotiations with the assistance of a provincial conciliation officer, Queen’s University and the USW are pleased to announce that they have reached a tentative first collective agreement.

The United Steelworkers (USW) and the university have two more dates for their ongoing contract negotiations for General Support Staff (Grades 2-9). The parties began conciliation meetings on June 20. ^.In conciliation, the parties are assisted by a provincially-appointed conciliation officer as they work through outstanding issues.

The conciliation officer has convened further meetings on Tuesday, July 3 and Wednesday, July 4 to continue the negotiation process.
