As the Centre’s first Postdoctoral Fellow, Andrea’s role encompasses both educational research and educational development. Andrea comes to the CTL with a deep appreciation for variations in disciplinary teaching, having studied at a high level in more than one discipline. After completing a Master’s degree in English Literature, she earned a PhD in Socio-Cultural Studies in the School of Kinesiology and Health Studies. She has more than 10 years university teaching experience, ranging from the one-to-one interactions of a Writing Centre Writing Consultant to the one-to-many pedagogies of teaching a large class and mentoring a team of TAs.

With expertise in active learning and writing, Andrea provides direct support to educators and broader support for teaching and learning excellence at the program and institutional level. Andrea is available to help all educators with teaching in active learning spaces or with active learning approaches, crafting a teaching dossier, or integrating and assessing writing in courses and classwork. She also directs a Writing Instruction for TAs program and works closely with a campus group to design Active Learning Classrooms, generating research in both areas. This spring, look for Andrea at Herstmonceux Castle as she continues her disciplinary teaching with “HLTH 404: Global Studies of Social Inclusion, Community Participation, and Mental Health.”
