What Does an Internationalized Curriculum Look Like?

The Promise of Cultures and Languages Across the Curriculum

Wednesday, February 27, 2013, 3:00 - 4:30
B176 Mackintosh Corry, Lecture Theatre

Co-sponsored by the International Office and the Centre for Teaching and Learning

Many institutions have set global competence of graduates as a key strategic goal to meet the increasing demand from employers for employees with intercultural and multilingual skills. Many institutions are moving toward a model that weaves language and culture across the curriculum by engaging stakeholders across campus to collaborate and envision a new approach to language and cultural experiences outside of traditional language courses.

Learn from experts as they explore existing models, suggest how to build a "culture and language across the curriculum" program, and set guidelines on how you can develop a customized program for your own campus.

Key Takeaways

  • Define a culture and language program using resources and models as a guide for developing a plan that is right for your institution.
  • Initiate a discussion with influential stakeholders about why culture and language across the curriculum is important.
  • Establish key roles and resources for a "culture and language across the curriculum" program and identify who can fill them on your campus.
