From an email from AW Lee on behalf of CUST students:
After an email discussion over the CUST grad student listserv and an online poll, we as a student body have decided on making the following changes to the 2011-2012 conference funding policy.
2011-2012 Policy (with appropriate dates changed):
It is proposed that Cultural Studies conference funds be distributed at the end of the funding year in order that everyone has a chance to apply. Cultural Studies graduate students who have conferenced within the funding year September 2012-August 2013 and wish to receive reimbursement can make it known by submitting the name and date of the conference attended along with their name, budget summary (Receipt and Budget Report) , and applicable receipts to Danielle Gugler by August 15, 2013 .
The funds will then be distributed equally among those who have applied to a minimum of $100.00. This means, for example, if there are 6 applicants each will receive $333.33 assuming there is $2000. If there are more than 20 applicants then there will be a lottery for the twenty allotments of $100. Each person can apply once a year and receipts are not required. However, in the case that there are more than twenty applicants priority will be given to those who have not received funding in previous years. This policy is to be revised each year and adapted by the students of Cultural Studies. As it is clear that there is not a lot of money, we are working on a need based honour system. This might mean that if you are not traveling far or are able to secure other funding you may want to consider not applying.
