Cultural Studies Funding Guarantee

The Cultural Studies program has a minimum funding guarantee program for full-time students. This guarantees a set amount of funding over the lifetime of the program as follows.

  • Domestic MA students $30,000 over two years, i.e. $15,000 per year
  • Domestic PhD students $80,000 over four years, i.e. $20,000 per year
  • International PhD students $120,000 over four years, i.e. $30,000 per year

Notes

  1. We do not offer tuition waivers. You must pay your tuition fees out of the scholarships that we offer.
  2. Part time students receive no funding.
  3. There is no guarantee of funding for international MA students, but they may receive some funding on a case-by-case basis.
  4. The minimum funding guarantee applies only when you do not have external funding from Provincial, Federal Government or other sources. The Cultural Studies program requires and will actively support you to apply for all external funding for which you are eligible. If you are unsuccessful then the minimum funding guarantee applies.
  5. The funding guarantee is contingent upon your successful progress in the degree program.
  6. If you receive funds from the program, this will be in a combination of scholarship funding and work as a teaching or research assistantships. Tax will be deducted on the work portion of your scholarship, but you may be able to claim this back by filing a tax return.
  7. If you graduate early, you may be required to pay back scholarship funding you may have received in advance.
  8. All funding rules and policies operate in accordance with the regulations of the School of Graduate Studies.
