My scholarly interests, in general, are experimental films ranging from European surrealism to American minimalism, German Expressionism, Screen Practice (Pre-cinematic spectacles), Adaptation, Archive, Persian classic (specifically mystical) and modern literature, performance arts, transnational auteurs, world cinema; documentary, amateur and small cinemas emerging in transitional countries in the Middle East.
I also like the contemporary topics of flux, migration and nomadism. However, more specifically, I am currently interested in examining the social and cultural implications of independent films such as experimental films in Iran: what kind of experimentation with cinema has emerged from a group of post-revolutionary interested young generation as a result of digital cinematography? Was there any alternative cinema as experimentation possible? If so, is it desirable?
