How to Apply

Please note: Applications are no longer being accepted for September 2017 admission. The Department will begin to accept applications for September 2018 admission in mid October 2017.

To apply to the Master's degree in Global Development Studies, applicants must complete the Queen's University School of Graduate Studies on-line application form. Click here for more information about the online application processThe application fee is $105.00. To complete the online application, you will need the following:

  • A short description of your research interests in global development studies for the Research Interests section. Be sure to indicate clearly why you consider Global Development Studies at Queen’s University to be a good fit to pursue research in your main interest areas.  
  • Two academic referees: if you have been out of university for more than 5 years, one or more professional recommendations may be included. Please note: Your referees will not receive an email with a link to Queen's secure online reference form system until you submit your application. We do allow a grace period after the January 31 deadline for recommendations and transcripts to be submitted.

In addition, you will need to send the following original documents:

  • Two copies of official transcripts from all university-level institutions you have previously attended.
  • For non-English-speaking international students: TOEFL/IELTS/MELAB certificates of English-language competency. For more information, including how to request a waiver of the test (if applicable), visit http://www.queensu.ca/sgs/prospective-students/preparing-graduate-studies and click on English Language Requirements.

The deadline for receiving applications for September admission is January 31. Late applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
