Major in DEVS (DEVS-M-BAH)

The Major degree in Global Development Studies is intended for students who would like to make development their primary field of study. Students apply to the Major plan after their first year in Arts and Science and should have completed DEVS 100. Students may also combine their Major in DEVS with a Minor in another department.

For students who entered the DEVS plan after May 1, 2019, a DEVS major consists of 66.0 units in DEVS, DEVS-Eligible languages, and DEVS-Eligible courses.  33.0 units are mandatory, 27.0 units selected from DEVS and DEVS_Eligible courses, and 6.0 units from the DEVS_Language list as outlined in the chart below or on the Faculty of Arts and Science webpage.

If there are any discrepancies between the information listed on the DEVS website and the Faculty of Arts and Science Academic Calendar, the academic calendar will prevail.

DEVS 260/3.0: Globalization, Gender, and Development
DEVS 300/3.0:  Cross-Cultural Research Methods

LANGUAGE/SUPPORTING COURSES (6.0 units)

DEVS 300L or higher:  9.0 units
DEVS 200L or higher:  9.0 units

Work-study option: DEVS Majors are eligible to apply for the independent work-study courses (DEVS 410*/411* and 420*)
International Study Option:  DEVS Majors are eligible to apply for the international study course DEVS 306/307
DEVS 501 (honours thesis) and DEVS 502: Directed reading course
