DEVS 432 Work-study Placement or Field Research Practicum (1.0 credit)

This field course provides students with an opportunity to gain practical development experience or to conduct field research under the guidance of a Fudan instructor. For the work placement, Queen’s students are paired with a Fudan student and then linked to a development organization working in the Shanghai area (both Chinese and international development organizations). The placement involves at least 10 hours of field work per week, for 12 weeks, a daily journal, a final report, and a class presentation. Depending on the number of placement opportunities, and the specific interests of students/instructors, there may be opportunities to choose to write a major research paper instead of a work placement. Queen’s students would be paired with a Fudan counterpart and undertake research on an important development theme that will be conducted under the supervision of a faculty member from Fudan.
